Non-standard chainring combinations
I've got a campagnolo centaur ultra-torque 10sp crank with the standard 39/53 double chainring combination. I'd like to switch to a different combination, but Campagnolo doesn't offer this option.
I did find Campi-compatible chainrings with various tooth counts on this site. Do these work well (shifting, durability)? Can I run any combination as long as I don't exceed the rear derailleur capacity? http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/roa...ng/STROCHRI500 http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/sp/roa...pd/TAAACHRI350 |
so what combination Do you want? 39 is as small as you can fit on 135 bolt circle,
39 is it , so there is a bigger small ring and smaller big ring. 7075 aluminum is good , Stronglight and TA make top notch spare chainrings. so you will be reducing the wrap capacity required of your Rear derailleur Cyclocrossers often switch to a smaller big ring, on their cranksets. the Paris Roubaix racers swap in a bigger small ring. so it's all fine. |
if you don't mind mixing stuff, then you can always switch out your crankset for a shimano or sram offering.

After running Sheldon's gear calculator I'm probably going to run 39/48 so your're absolutely right that derailleur capacity is not an issue. I was just so happy to find such a large range of rings that I was looking at all the combinations :) Now I'll finally be able to put my 12-25 cassette to good use! |
