I need to replace the brake pads on my 83 Fuji. It has Dia Comp 610 centerpulls.
I was going to buy the VO pads since I need to pick up some other things but I feel unsure as to what pads and shoes I buy. I think I need the ones with nuts, but which ones are they and which pads match?

You need the "Cartridge Road Shoes".

I hate to give these pads a negative review because Velo Orange usually puts out good products, but their "squeal-free compound" is incredibly hard wearing on rims. I brought a handful of them on tour last year, and on one long rainy descent in Laos, I looked down to see my fork (and even waterbottle) covered in a thick layer of aluminum dust. I've done some incredible descents in my life, and have never seen anything like that.

On the other hand, they really didn't squeal on my chronically squeal prone bike. Koolstop Salmon pads squeal and shutter like crazy on that bike. I would say that if you plan to use the pads in everyday riding, you're fine. Just don't take them touring in the mountains.

Correct. You need the ones with the nuts.

I have never used VO pads before, but after trying Kool Stop I will never buy anything else. Easy on the rims and excellent stopping power. I've never had mine squeal.

I am a big fan of the shimano DA and high end mountain pads. Wear well and do a great job wet or dry.

Thank you guys! I get so nervous that I'll buy the wrong thing. Hah.
I'll keep shopping around. I'd figure I'd try the VOs since I need to buy a few other things, but if they're that hard on the rims I hesitate to pull the trigger. I'd hate to ruin the anodization, even though the bike is a city rider. I agree kool stops are excellent. I have them on my Schwinn and it's made a world of difference. Luckily stopping power is not my issue but a squeal from hell is. Can't even stop at the end of my drive without scaring the neighbors!

I second the emotion on Kool-Stops. Replaced the stock pads on my Trek because they were so loud and grindy sounding ... and the pads kept picking up flakes off the rim. The Kool-Stop Tectonics have been awesome. Quiet and solid braking power.
