How serious - bent quick release skewer
Overhauling an old touring bike. Took the front wheel off and the front quick relase skewer bar has a short bent section at the end. It isn't severe enough to prevent going through the hub - but it is there. It is one of the older skewers that can completely unscrew from the handle. Can it ride for a while until I get a new one in the mail?
Thanks
Thanks

Check to be sure that the axle isn't broken as well.

Unfortuantly, thats going to be tough, as it has some weird bearing design that I have no idea how to get out. Both ends are round and smooth - no place for a cone wrench at all. I'm fairly sure they are some kind of cartridge bearing. Is there an easy way to tell on the axle if I can't get it apart? I know that I've seen pics of using an allen key and whacking the bearings out, but I really don't want to do that.
Will riding on this quick release skewer be detrimental to the bike further? I've got a new one ordered, but it'll be Thursday before it gets here.
Thanks for thoughts.

The bend on the skewer is 'near the threads' at the end with the quick release handle. Maybe it bent with too much pressure on the quick release at one time? Just guessing. The bend is 'slight' , and like I said does not prevent it from entering or exiting the axle hole without any real problem.

Last time I broke an axle the two pieces could be pulled out. If the axle isn't wobbly and nothing fell out you're probably ok.

Good to know. I twined off the front fork dropouts and checked their distance to a known object front and back and I think they are parallel and in good shape too. Hopefully it is just this crappy skewer that falls apart everytime you take wheel off. Ordered an internally cammed set of skewers to replace the old ones on this bike per Sheldon's site. . .
