basic question regarding to the wheel quick release
 

I got my first hybrid bike "marin alp luvas valley" 2 days ago and boy...i am excited.

Anyway, the sales guy at local bike shop did not bother to tell me how to remove and install wheels so here am i..

How can i know i have tighten the quick release tight enough? i noticed the quick release (cam lever) on the rear wheel is very tight, after i unlocked it, i had to use two hands to push the lever back really hard to get it in lock position, i was afraid i was going to break the quick release.

Is it supposed to be this hard, or i did something wrong?

It should not be that hard to release. When putting it back it should begin to engage with the lever half closed and should leave a momentary white mark on the palm of your hand as you finish closing the lever. One hand only.

Congratulations on the new bike ! You should be able to release the cam lever with one hand. If it takes two hands it is too tight. Loosen it up a little until you can release it with a firm pull with one hand. I use the heel of my hand to push the lever in to lock it down with a firm push then test it to see if I can release it firmly but with one hand. That is tight enough. The cam lever quick release is a great design, it actually provides more tension on the skewers than you would think because of the mechanical advantage from the cam levers.
Get some rides in with your new bike and let us know how it goes !

1. With the wheel on your bike point the quick release lever parallel with the axle.
2. Now tighten the other side of the quick release with your fingers.
3. You should now (with effort) be able to push the QR lever inward.
