DeSoto Classic Shifter help!

Hey Everyone. This is only my second post here so bare with me as I learn the ropes. Well I have recently acquired a Trailmaster DeSoto Classic. It was given to me by a friend. It has a Shimano 3CC hub that shifts fine. I have read in other places that these hubs are touchy with the gears inside. The Sturmey-Archer shifter is non functioning. The question I have is, is there any other kind of shifter that I could use and should I replace the cable as well? Any kind of help would be SPECTACULAR!!!

How can you know that the hub shifts fine if the shifter isn't functioning? Or is the S-A shifter a part you've picked up somewhere in order to do some customization?

3CC has that helpful yoke/fulcrum thingy by the rear axle. Unless seriously messed up you should have a symbol clearly lined up with a hole in the carrier when it's in the 2nd gear. Real easy to adjust. Never removed the carrier, so I can't help you any further than that.

You are aware that these two are separate brands right? They may work perfectly fine together, but they were never intended to.

Well, S-A shifters are still sold, both the old thumb style, bar-end shifter, and twist shifters - IF you can use those. I think I've seen twist shift units for Shimano 3-speed as well.

Come to think of it, I have a 3CC thumb shifter around somewhere, but I'm in Europe. You can probably source one closer for less than the shipping.

Only if it's frayed, rusty or badly kinked. 3-speed cables can be a bit less tinker friendly than cables for external gears. They're often sold in fixed lengths, with terminals and casings already in place, where the external gear cable is sold at raw length, to be threaded and clamped to fit.
