Question About Shimano Freehub Replacement
So, I had a grand plan of dropping a 9 speed Shimano Ultegra cassette on to an old Shimano 105 wheel. The particular hub of the rear wheel is a FH-1056, which I discovered is at least a decade old and only fits a 7 speed cassette. When I tighten the final lock ring on the 9 speed cassette, the whole thing locks up and won't spin freely. I assume this is because the free hub body is too narrow and gets squeezed by the surplus of cassette cogs.
Will either of these freehub bodies fit on my old hub and allow me to put a 9 speed cassette on the wheel?

Thanks.

FH-1056 designates an 8/9-speed hub, so your cassette should fit. You wouldn't be able to get the lockring to thread on at all if it were 7-speed.
What's hitting? Is the large cog hitting spokes? Is it binding on the hub body?
In any case, a 1.2mm shim behind the cassette should give it room to spin. These are used under some cogs on Shimano cassettes- ask your local bike shop if they have a box of dead cassettes you can dig through. You want one like this:

Is the lockring jamming the cone/locknut? Sometimes a new right side cone or locknut is needed when swapping Freehub bodies. These should be available for about $1 at a local shop.

Oh man, I'm dumb. I put the freehub's dust cap on backwards and it jammed the bearings up. All is well now. The 9 speed cassette fits like a dream on the freehub.
Thanks!
Thanks!
