Campy Geniuses Help! Can a Chorus 11 shifter be rebuilt into a 10 speed shifter?

Or is it "genii"?
I am toying with the idea of converting from Chorus 11 to Comp triple.

I have Chorus with a compact crank. I even have an IRD cassette with a thirty tooth cog on the rear- (It works great btw with the Chorus RD!) But, I still want to get to shorter gear inches, and do it without spending more than I have to. Besides, I love the shifters, and from what I gather searching here- the left shifter will be compatible with the triple, correct? So I just need to work on the right shifter?

Also- do I definately need the Comp Triple Front derailler? The Chorus FD I have won't work over the Comp Triple crank?

And then finally- I see there is a mid length cage RD in Chorus 10. Would that possibly work with the Comp Triple? And be a little snappier than the long cage RD?
It's a ton of questions I know, but any advice as usual, would be greatly appreciated!

That could be done if Campagnolo still sold the small parts separately meaning the EC-CE133 front ratchet and EC-CE160 rear index.

The don't.

You'll need to buy a EP9-CEUXCR Centaur carbon 10 speed Ultrashift right hand lever assembly which is complete except for brake blade, hood, and mounting hardware. About $100 which is half what a pair of NOS 2010 Centaur carbon Ultrashift levers cost imported from the UK with a cable set included.

Correct.

You want the triple front derailleur.

The medium cage derailleur is officially for the triple with all cogsets except 13-29. You'll want the large which shifts just as well but doesn't look as racy as a short cage derailleur. For the long cage with better cosmetics you can find a used late model Record Titanium long-cage unit with carbon knuckle and outer cage.

Or trade with someone who has a 10 and wants 11 ?
Possibly me
Or sell the 11 and buy 10

Isn't cheaper just sell your 11 chorus and buy maybe a centaur 10 carbon ultrashift? those are still moving around and have the shape u want. Easy u can get like 300 bucks for your levers that will give around 100 bucks in your pocket to go to eat something with your girl.

Personally is a waste to come back to triple more than nothing because u have zillions of gears that are repeated but if you don't climb that much that's something that I fully understand, but its easier just to train a little bit more as well, right??

Good luck

Currently on the bike are 1996 Chorus levers upgraded to 9 speed, Campagnolo Chorus CT front derailleur, FSA Carbon Pro compact 50-34 crank, Racing-T rear derailleur with 9 speed pulley bolts and jockey wheels, and 13-14-15-16-17-18-19-21-23 9 speed cassette. I built the bike up with a 50-40-30 triple and 13-21 8 speed cassette to net perfect gears regardless of whether I headed west up the Rocky Mountains or east on the plains and after wearing out my big ring figured that 34x23 was close enough to 30x21 with 2 rings better than 3. Found I was wrong with lots of double shifting on some terrain/wind/fatigue/rest day combinations and riding 50x21 or 34x14 being noisier than 40x16/17.

In my parts closet I have NOS 2010 Centaur Carbon Ultrashift levers (grabbing a set before the supply dried up seemed prudent), a Record Titanium 10 speed triple front derailleur, FSA SLK Light triple crank with 50-39-30 rings, and Record Titanium carbon long cage 10 speed rear with carbon fiber outer cage. Being somewhat over-weight I'll run a 13-26 and maybe consider a 28 small ring.

I'd swap everything sooner rather than later but newer levers no longer mount at the middle of the drop so to keep comfortable hood and drop locations I'll need to swap my Cinelli 66 for a shallower shape, the bar won't have a 26.4mm clamp so a new stem will be involved, and to not look goofy that would imply a new fork and threadless headset. At that point I'm also only a frame and brake set away from having another road bike...

My rear derailleur upper and lower pivots are worn out, shifting is a little slower around the highest mileage cogs, and the chain is 7 months old with 2600 miles so I'd guess a change is not too far off.

I dont think it is possible. Campagnolo kind'a changed the whole thing introducing new models like 2 or 3 years ago, now even repair parts are super hard to get.

I live on hill that is a half mile or more of 12- 14 percent grade. Look at my signature. Besides which I have my knees injected every couple of months.

Also I was kind of dreaming about some of those challenge rides- like really hilly century rides, you know? I figure i will never be fast again, so I my as well go (somewhat) long!

Yep, the guts are very different on 11sp versus all prior versions. I've only overhauled one 11sp right Ergopower shifter so far, and for those who plan to do it, I have some advice: work on the entire assembly inside of a containment device such as a clear plastic bag, or down in a white kitchen-sized trashcan. 2mm ball bearings, weentsy lil' springs... you've been warned
