Good friction shifters?

Now i'm not sure if this fits into the "bicycle mechanics" section... but, if anyone ought to know it should be you all! I just up graded my old schwinn le tour's derailleur from the old crappy 70's model to a newer deore xt.... and it shifts like a dream! Since my bike has a 5 speed freewheel my shifter selection is not that great... so heres the question: does anyone make nice, stem mounted, friction shifters anymore? I have seen a few, and they look pretty crappy, to say the least. I dont really care too much about indexed shifters- it would be nice, but my bike shifts very well with the old friction shifters. If anyone has any suggestions- let me know! thanks.

Rivendell has a selection of downtube and bar end shifters and converters. haven't used them but Rivendell has a pretty good reputation.
