I Need To Paint My Rims, What Will I Need?
 

Hello,

My question is simple, what materials will I need to spray paint my rims a bright green? The color of course, and what else? Primer? Gloss? Sand Paper? What's unnecessary?

And also; Of course I will remove them, and separate them from the tire and tube, but how do I prevent the rims from getting any paint on them? Should I tape each individual end up and cover them? Or is there an easier way?

Easy, unlace the rim from the hub and take it to powder coat.

If the rims are aluminum, you'll need an aluminum-compatible primer before your color coat. If your rims have eyelets, you'll want to mask all of them off, too. They're usually steel, sometimes stainless, and really tough to paint. You'll have to disassemble the wheel, clean and sand it, clean it again, mask off everything you don't want to paint, then primer and paint. Once the paint is hardened, you'll have to relace the wheel, taking care not to scratch your new paint. That's an awful lot of labor when you can buy colored rims from Velocity in many different colors and patterns:

Find a place that does anodizing or electroplating. Back before Velocity offered all those wild colors, my brother and I found a guy who charged $100 per dip and tossed in our rims, headset races, cranks, and seat posts.

Explain this "need' .. ?

Yep on the powder coat.
The job should run less than $50. and you'll have a durable finish.
A quality coater can easily mask off the braking surface of each wheel should you go with brakes
