If you look back in the Shimano catalogues for the era, you will not find 600AX or Dura-Ace AX headsets. The supplied headsets were 600EX or Dura-Ace EX with a clear, plastic cup with blue lettering that fit over the upper stack to make it more aerodynamic. I had a Dura-Ace AX equipped Velo Sport Mirage and could detect no difference. I don't think they even changed the label bands on the cups.
