Mountain cross

Has anyone run a mountain bike w/ a rigid fork and 700c wheels? I had my eye on a Rocky Mountain and was thinking of setting it up as a crosser w/ discs.

You usually don't have enough clearance in the rear triangle for anything bigger than like a 28-32c tyre on an MTB with 700s
