headset spacers
 

just wondering if it matters how you stack these, originally when i got the bike the biggest spacer was on the bottom, just had some work done with the headset, and now the biggest is on top???? so just wondering if it matters how they are stacked

Makes no difference how they are placed as long as the total stack height is correct. When first establishing the bar height and steerer length I put the biggest spacer(s) on the bottom as I can refine the setting more easily by adding and removing the smaller ones on top. After the total spacer stack height is determined and the steerer cut to final length, they can go on in any order.

sweet thanks for the info, im not quite sure i want to cut the fork yet, im just a bit hesitant to do that, im happy just putting two spacers on top

Nothing wrong with spacers above the stem,
for tall stacks, I'm liking the Cane Creek interlok spacers , they fit together like Legos.
Even better if you have their headset too, I don't.

I found restoring a cut too short steerer was a chore to make longer thru stem raisers and such .

I got one of QBP's locking spacers at the bottom, a little pinch bolt holds it there.

Integrated headset lets the fork fall out when stem was loosened, It wont now.

Good. I always leave the steerer long enough to require a 10 mm spacer above the stem. That gives me the option of raising the stem in the future and assures the steerer is fully supported inside the stem clamp. The later consideration is important for a carbon steerer and a good idea for alloy and Cr-Mo steerers.
