Crank missing puller threads

I was removing some no-name square taper cranks off of an old Giant road bike last night. The drive side came off fine, but then I could not get the puller to thread into the non-drive side crank arm. Upon closer inspection I realized there were no threads for a puller!

I have never seen that before. I was able to get the crank off with an old jaw type puller I have, but it wasn't pretty.

I'm just wondering if the missing puller threads is just a fluke, or if it is not that uncommon in cheap cranks?

+1. some one hammered the campy or simplex cranks on an pugeout that I snatched, I just sold it for cheap.

I assume it could be a manufacturing mistake - that crank missed the threading operation.

Can you see signs of threads?

Mudpie, there are no threads. I agree, it must have been a manufacturing mistake.
