Differences between 2007 and 2010 Easton EC90 SLX fork?
 

I have a 2007 Easton EC90 SLX fork lying around waiting for my new bike build. I can pick up a 2010 EC90 SLX fork for a good price and was wondering if anyone knows of the differences between the 2007 (and probably 2008 and 2009) and the 2010 models? For 2010, Easton introduced the ITT (integrated thread technology) feature to supposedly eliminate the need for a compression plug. Were there other differences like better carbon lay-up, etc?

I tried calling Easton and after waiting 20 minutes, I finally hung up. Not necessarily a good sign, I know. :twitchy:

I am not sure when they started using the Carbon nanotube technology on the SLX. I have the 2010 with the ITT. I had a choice between a 2009 and a 2010 for a little more. I had heard of some issues with the old plug design so I went with the newer design. I think that is the only significant difference, unless htey went to the nanotube carbon between 07 and 10.

Thanks for the reply. I heard about those plug issues too - if I stick with the 2007 model, I would get an FSA compression plug.

Are you happy with the SLX? I read some reviews indicating that it's a little flexy for riders over 200 lbs (I'm between 205-210).

I've got EC90 SLX forks on two bikes purchased in 2006 and they both have "nanotube" decals on them.

Concerning the newer interior threaded steerers, my two forks came with Easton's "Beartrap" expandable spacer to adjust the headset and came with no expander plugs. The Beartrap was a dismal failure and I have FSA expanders in both and they work fine. Easton admitted the Beartraps didn't work and sent me the expanders gratis. I assume the threaded steerer interior system works a lot better.

As to "flexy", mine certainly aren't but then I'm 150 pounds.
