Bent Stays

Hello everyone,

Recently I had a crash on my steel framed bike and when I inspected the bike afterward, I noticed both stays had been bent to the left.

I was wondering if this frame is toast, or how I should go about fixing it.

It can be straightened and realigned by any frame builder or an LBS with the proper tools and alignment gages. The frame builder would be a better choice if you have one.

Get an estimate for the work and have whoever sees it look carefully to be sure the brazed joints aren't damaged and the bottom bracket shell isn't distorted. Based on their recommendations, decide if the job is feasible and the cost is worth it.

The perfect job for a 2x4, same way u do a cold setting, basically is the samething but more extreme in your case. Hope it doesnt get cracked in the BB bridge area.

Good luck.

It can be straightened, but it'll take some skill. The bend is pretty severe, so there's a good chance that it'll never be suited for high performance again, but it'll certainly be serviceable as a "B" bike.

My biggest concern is up at the seatstay/seat lug joint. This style of seatstay joint is prone to buckling or braze failure when undergoing heavy cold setting.
