Are flick-stands still being made?
These allow leaning a bike with less chance of it rolling and falling. It's a gizmo attached to the pipe near the front wheel that flicks out and grabs the wheel, preventing the steering mechanism from inadvertently turning on its own as the bike leans on a surface.

Velcro is a great idea. The little flick stand thing is cute, though. One of those Doh! Why didn't I think of that! ideas.

If you really want to go cheap, just use a rubber band around your down tube and loop the ends around the tire valve stem. Not the best solution, but it works.

There wa also a gizmo that acted as a wedge in the front brake lever. It worked by locking the front wheel. There was a loop of string so it could be attached to the brake cable.

No alternatives can compare to Flickstand. Get it when you see it on Ebay reagrdless of how much.
Edit: Make sure, your down tube is a standard steel tube diameter. Nothing else will fit.

So THAT'S what that gizmo was! I bought an old Peugeot that had a flickstand on it (but no kick-stand).
I couldn't figure out what it was, so I took it off. I thought it might have been a tire scraper to remove glass from the tire if you ran over some shards.
NOW I get it. Neat.

I was the first Rhode Gear employee and my job was to package the " Flick Stands" for retail sales. 1978 in East Greenwich RI The owners were just dabbling with the company then.

I never bought the Flick stand as it always ended up right on top of the bike's name or logo on the down tube, which will most likely eventually scratch up the paint and decals. I would have maybe bought one if they made them with a mounting body/clamp out of clear plastic instead.....but there is still the possbile down tube decal/paint scratching problem..... There were Raleighs in the 80s that had them mounted on a brazed threaded boss, which makes more sense.

The Raleigh was definately the better design. It also had 2 holes and could be used for a cable stop.
