Replacement Fork for Trek Cruiseliner?
I found a Trek Cruiseliner frame and fork for cheap, and built it up with a Nexus 8-speed hub. It is a great bike, but the fork is bent back and to the right, so I've gotta replace it. I'd also like to put a disc brake up front, and be able to use the stock fender, which is 2.5" at it's narrowest point.
Here is a link to the bike: http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes...ve/cruiseliner Here are a few forks I've found: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MTB-HI-TEN-R...ht_1196wt_1037 Pros: Cheap, has fender eyelets, brake bosses could maybe be used to hold a rack. http://www.ebay.com/itm/new-Chromoly...#ht_500wt_1287 Pros:Same as above, but less cheap, cro-moly http://surlybikes.com/parts/troll_fork/ Pros: Made to work with racks and fenders, fits up to 2.7" tires Would a suspension corrected fork be bad since this bike never had suspension, and the original fork probably isn't corrected for it? |
Unless you plan on changing out the headset for a 1" threadless, you need to find a 1" threaded fork to use as a replacement. The forks you are linking to are all 1 1/8" threadless which means there is no way they will fit.
A suspension corrected fork will leave a big gap between the crown of the fork and the tire. This will slightly affect the bike's geometry and also requiring a small bracket to mount the fender. Finding a non-suspension corrected 1" threaded fork with a disc mount will likely be impossible. This might work if you are ok with v-brakes: http://www.niagaracycle.com/product_...ducts_id=10810 |
Arrowana: According to the link you provided that bike has a steel fork, which can possibly be straightened.

The current fork is 1 1/8" threaded, so I can use the ones above if I get a new headset. I suppose bending it back in place might be possible, but I'd rather just get a new one so I can go to disc brakes.
Taking another look at the hi-ten fork, I don't think it is suspension corrected. Probably the best choice, right? |
