Tire clearance problem on Origin-8 Mixer
Hi everyone,
I'm building up an Origin-8 Mixer frame for my girlfriend, since one of her requirements was a low top bar. However, now that I'm building it up, I'm realizing just why the frame is so damned cheap compared to most mixte's. The small crossbar between the seat stays seem to be welded almost an inch too low. The website claims that the frame clears 700x52, but I'm having trouble with a 32, and probably even a 25. Are there any solutions to this problem? Bike is upside down in this picture Just for future Origin-8 Mixer buyers -- the front brake requires a long-reach brake with 700c wheels, but the rear brake is regular. There's no indentation in the chainstay where the chainring would be, so buy a wide bottom bracket! And unless this frame is defective, plan to use 700x23c wheels, and don't be heavy :-p |
you sure a 700c wheel goes in there and not a 650c ? one of the thing we do with woman's bike is to use small wheels , most of the time it the front but it could be the rear. Terry's Bikes are known for doing such a thing.

http://www.origin-8.com/?p=304 Fourth line on the page: "It can clear 700 x 52c or 29 x 2.1″ tires"
The front fork definitely wouldn't have a problem, and two out of the three rear crossbars wouldn't have a problem... |
how far back is the wheel going into the dropouts ? will there be more room it if the wheel goes all the way into them ?

bummer, I'd had thoughts in the back of my head about building one of those up for my wife as I think the frames go up to 56 cm which is rare in a mixte.

Well, as a quick update for everyone -- the bike shop that I bought the frame from got back to me. I sent him a picture, and he confirmed that this frame was welded wrong. He's sending me a new frame asap!

Wow...and it somehow left the factory.
I mean, I can see small stuff sneaking out...but this is major really. =8-) |
