Dishing a Front Wheel

I'm going to try this out anyway but I thought I'd post it to see if anyone else has done this and/or endure some flames.

I have acquired some Bontrager wheelsets (various sources) and, after matching up and building out some bikes I find myself with several rear wheels and no more fronts. I plan to disassemble one rear and rebuild that rim on a front hub to match up my leftovers. These rears are "OSB" rims --meaning "offset spoke bed." Building a centered front wheel on an OSB rim will require me to dish it back to center. Should be an interesting experiment. (lots of wheelbuilding experience)

No biggy really...you wouldn't be the first to do it.

=8-)

If you were a bit closer I'd ask if you'd want to trade a Mavic Cosmic front for one of your Bontrager rears... Fronts seem more plentiful. You might have luck selling a rear and buying a front for less money.

offset wheel rims for the rear work fine with a disc brake front,
it has a relatively tiny dish, but some.. .

even if you don't mount the disc, for now..

Build-wise it's pretty much a non-issue, but there's no way I'd use an OSB rim together with a symmetric hub. None, zilch, nada.
I'd save them for for the hubs that benefit from OSB rims instead, and I'd put disc braked fronts in that category.

I have no current builds with disc brakes so maybe it's time for a new experiment. I'll look around for an appropriate hub (24 hole disc fronts available?)

Oh, sure. Used to be a 24H Shimano XT, and there is a current, fairly inexpensive Circus Monkey 24H disc hub. There are probably others as well.
