Will older 113mm Shimano BB work with new 110mm Crank?

Will older 113mm Shimano BB work with new 110mm Crank?

I want to upgrade my '92 Davidson Impulse 105 53/42 crank to a Sugino Alpina 48/34 compact crank that recommends a 110mm BB. The original stock 105 (1055) BB is 113mm. Square taper, JIS.

Assuming your current BB is symetrical and the BB called for is symetrical, you are talking about a 1.5mm difference in chain line. And as you are pushing the crank out that amount and going to a crankset with a lower tooth count small ring, I can't see how you'd have a problem.

Bumping my older thread, but I wanted to know if a 113 BB would work with a double compact crank that recommends a 107mm BB?

Opinions?

107mm, in Shimano land anyway, is one of those odd BB. A Shimano 110mm is the same length drive side as their 107. The extra 3mm is all on the non-drive. I think, but I'm not sure, that the 3mm extra on the 113 versus the 110 is evenly distributed. So what's the point? My guess is that the crank will be pushed out just 1.5mm - but don't hold me to this.

What make of 107mm BB compact crank are you considering?

A low profile crankset sits further out if it is used on a longer than required spindle

go with what the crank's manufacturer says.

bring the calipers to the shop, and measure ..

1. You might simply want to back off the high limit screw on the FDR and see if it has enough travel to reach the additional distance.
2. You might also want to shift to a "middle" cog on the rear and "eyeball" your chain line to see if it seems "reasonable". Look at it with the chain on either front ring and see if they "match".

IF it's a tiny bit on the "short side", that would be helpful. "Long side" not.

U are right, sorry.

If the op sugino crankset is jis, then the 105 BB wont be a problem IMO. IF iso it wont either but is not that good to put iso into jis tappers.

That's what I think too. If I'm buying new parts I'll get ones that match exactly. If I already own components I'll see if I can make what I have work.

Sugino XD2 48/34. Pulled the trigger on it yesterday and also went with the IRD QB-55 107mm bottom bracket, which only cost $29.00 anyway. My 105 BB is 20 years old so I might as well replace it now as well.
