Basic road brake lever clamp won't loosen

I have a vintage '87 Kuwahara Titan I just bought and I am trying to change the stem, so I have to remove a lever.

Both levers are completely stuck on, like there is a bolt I am missing.

I removed the screw through the hole in the front of the lever but it has done nothing, either the clamp is completely siezed or there is something I am missing.

These are basic non-brifter levers, and I see nothing else under the hood or anywhere else. The screw is completely out of the lever and it won't budge.

Any ideas on this?

Thanks!

Nevermind, I am dumb. I could not see the allen bolt in there. I guess the screw is actually for reach or something?

I found this image which cleared things up.

The little screw in the lever body holds the pivot pin centered. Put it back in, or the pin will fall out and you won't have any brakes. This is bad.

So far I can't get it back in. It's a screw attached to a spring. Any tips on getting it back in place? I might just have to replace the levers, what a pain.

Oooh... I never took apart an AGC lever with return spring. I think part of the trick is to get the screw started with the lever off of the body. Then put on the lever, push the pin in, and tighten the screw.

...

I think. No guarantees.

I got it in, after 137.5 attempts. Lucky shot!
