I have two bikes (05 Specialized Allez Triple & 08 Trek 7.3 FX) that sometime develop squeaks in the BB. I have been taking them into the LBS to tighten for $10 each time but would like to be able to tighten them myself. The question is I don’t know what tools I would need. Is there a good/home set of tools to work on the different BB & some not so big job.

What type of BB is it? if you look on the Park tools website, they have how to guides for how to fix each type of BB, and not which tool to use for each type.

Would also be looking for the root cause of the loosening, as under normal use, you would not expect a BB to loosen if correctly tightened.

How do you know it's the BB getting loose? Do the crank arms rock side-to-side a bit? I've had BB's "click", BB's "grind" like shaking coffee beans, and BB's simply have seized. But rarely a "squeak." Most of the squeaking in that area comes from chain, crankset, and pedals. So I'm curious why you'd want to tighten the BB and why it would be coming loose on your bikes. Is it a chronic problem?

Or seat. Or pedal cleats. Or handlebars/stem.

Diagnosing squeaks on bikes is seldom quick or easy, and particularly difficult via remote viewing.
