What are my fork options?
I have a 10 year old hybrid bike with Shimano Deore XT v-brakes. It has a really poor front suspension fork, which I want to exchange for a rigid fork. Wheels size is 28 inches.
What are my options? Can I e.g. go for a XC fork like this: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=39460 What about the v-brakes - do they fit on the cantilever brackets, or do I need something completely different? |
The brakes will work, but that fork will most likely make you front end sit lower than before, which will affect handling. Whether this is important to you or not is impossible to say.
To keep the bike steering as it did before, you need to look for a fork with the same axle-to-crown measurement as your fork have with you on the bike. The word is "suspension-corrected", but do try to get the measurement "right" as well.(doesn't have to be spot on) Look for 29er rigid forks. You might consider switching to a disc brake front, as that'd let you ignore the supposed wheel size the fork is intended for and focus solely on axle-crown measurement. |
Good point!
So this might be the one for me? http://www.wiggle.co.uk/surly-karate...gid-fork/#more But what is the head tube width on these? I guess I have 1 1/8 on my bike. |
Take it you mean a 700c wheel when saying 28", if so, then the Ritchey fork won't work, as it's for 26 inch MTB's.
Suspecting you are talking about 700c if you have a Hybrid, if so, dabac idea of a 29er fork is the way to go, the the Surly fork on Wiggle would work fine as this is that. |
why not 1-1/5,i think this may be suit for the road bike.

Don't think so. It's listed as a cyclocross, not a cross-country fork. And CX, is typically the domain of 700C/622 mm/28" bikes.

I ordered the Surly one. I checked the A-C and it was spot on compared to my current setup! Thx for all advices!
