Securing bolt on drop bar brakes stuck (crossthreaded)

So when I was trying to re-install my brakes on my new bars I came a cropper. Every time I tried to tighten the brake levers onto the bar the nut would immediately tighten up, so I'd back it out and try again. Then I got impatient and tried a bike harder then it got stuck! It's not stuck on the bar, you just can't tighten or loosen the securing bolt thingy. I have a replacement bolt and ring thing (I don't know what these are called), but I can't get the cross threaded one off! Any ideas about how I can sort this situation out or are my brakes done for?
Thanks in advance

Ask Bubba for some help? Or you might try to cut the "ring thing" from the bar. Once you can get access to the nut you can muscle it a little better. You should be able to get replacement parts.

First try some super human torque to see if you can back off the nut. If or when that fails take off the bar clamp it securely and use a hacksaw to slot the clamp on the side of the bar. If you're not a skilled sawyer, put a patch of duct tape over the bar on both sides of the clamp, replace the tape everytime you cut into it. This should prevent you from nicking the bar itself unless you're mechanically declined.

Brute force prevails! Got it off and used a replacement ring and bolt from a decrepit brake lever I had.
