Shimano Chain/Cassette compatibility
I just bought an Ultegra cassette cs-6700 (11-28T). Instructions say only use with CN-7900/CN-7801/CN-6700/CN-6600/CN-5600.
My 105 chain (CN-5701) says "For 7900 (Dura-Ace), 6700 (Ultegra), 5700 (105)".
Are these 2 parts compatible (both are 10 speed)? unless I'm mis-reading, the chain box says that they are but the cassette instruction says that they are not.
Thanks

The instructions for the cassette are older, so make no mention of the newer model chain, but the chain's instructions authorize it's use with that cassette.
Definitely compatible, but for 10-speed road cassettes, particularly those with the widest gearing spreads, I'd select one of Shimano's asymmetric chains. Perhaps that 5701 chain has the asymmetric feature? It does slightly improve shifting over longer service intevals.

The 5701 is definitely asymetric. Shimano's instruction sheet clearly shows an "outside" and "inside" and is specific as to how the chain should be oriented for installation of the joining pin. At one time Shimano specified that these asymetric chains were for double cranks only but their current tech document doesn't mention that.
