bent steel frame, any chance of it bending back?
just won this bad boy for £6.50, seeing as its made from steel and the bend isnt too severe, i thought its probably worth a punt. it looks like its been on a head on, but iv heard that doesnt neccessarily mean a right off.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...:X:RTQ:GB:1123 but do you guys know the best way to bend this back to place? has anybody done it before ? cheers Jonny |
That looks wrecked, it;s a budget bike / frame, and doubt it could be cost effectively repaired, vs getting an undamaged replacement. Would also be concerned about the fork / headset interface, as it doesn't look right.
Take it your 7+ foot tall, as that's sized for a giant. |
It can be done, but I wouldn't try on a bike that is bent that seriously. Looks like it has gone through a serious collision. I don't think bike shops will give it a go either as that is a liability...
You need a tool to make sure the stays are in alignment, a tool to take out kinks in the stays (if any), and a beastly leverage tool to bend back the top and down tube (which is fairly difficult to find). It will be expensive and you will probably end up with a bike that is still misaligned. Oh yeah, you may have to straighten the fork too. Not worth it. |
^^ Agree on all counts. You now own a wall hanger or an odd shaped door stop. As noted above that frame is HUGE and even if repairable, it would be suited only for a pro basketball player.

get a 6' long 1" pipe and find a forked tree trunk and see what happens. you can always throw it away if it doesn't work.
|
Save the parts & throw away the frame.
|
Its worth it just for the parts, you got it cheap.
|
Normally I would say yes, But do not bother with this one. You need speciall tools and a lot of skill, even then it's iffy if it would ride "right" or be safe. Some of the parts may be worthwhile

Chewbaca's bike? :D Strip it and find another Wookie sized frame.

+100
Strip for parts, junk the frame/fork. Still not a terrible deal. OP: how tall are you? |
