It's a little more complicated than
do they generaly all run the same size on newer frames?
If you post a photo of what you have, you might get better advice,
otherwise take it to your local shop or coop and have someone tell you
while they are looking at it.

If you are looking to replace your current bottom bracket, there are a number of dimensions to be considered, shell width and threading, axle length, and taper type are the most important. If you will be using a ball bearing (as opposed to cartridge type) bottom bracket, the thickness of the cups and spacing between the races on the spindle must also be taken into account.

If it is in fact a Schwinn Racer it is a one piece crank and a BMX style bottom bracket. If you are converting it to a three piece crankset it will be expensive as you need a special adapter, plus the bottom bracket and the crankset. Figure $80 and up depending on what you want to use. If you are keeping the one piece Schwinn crank the you just need a Schwinn bottom bracket as they used different thrading than most other bikes. A picture would really help. Roger

I haven't pulled anything apart yet but I know its a square taper and I've been considering getting allcitys 612. its supposed to be a good set and its priced good. I really just want to get ride of the ugly one piece on there and go with something better all around. if you can recommenx something better for about the same price with good looks as well. id really love a paul crankset but $$$lol

yes it is a racer. by looks and by a serial number I googled. I can't seem to find anything specific on the bb

One piece AND square taper? You can't have both.

I'm not sure what you consider "one piece" and "square taper," but they are two different animals. Really... pics would help. If what you have is an old "Schwinn Racer," assuming a Paul crank would work, it would not be cost effective.

"Schwinn hi ten frame from a racer" and "newer frames" have nothing in common.

Ahh, I missed the "newer frames" bit in the original post.

If it's a 2010 or2011 Schwinn Racer then it does indeed have 3-pc square taper cranks. It just has a crank with a non-replaceable chainring.

The Schwinn's BB shell is 68mm for sure, but you only need to know that for BB replacement.

The All-City 612 crank calls for a 110mm BB spindle. You'll have to remove your cranks to measure your spindle unless you can find the Schwinn specs online somewhere.

Yeah, I don't know if any of that helps identify the bottom bracket. If you don't have a crank puller then I reckon the LBS would be the way to go.

Might try checking with the Single Speed / Fixed Gear subforum. They might have input as to how common a 110mm BB is on Schwinn cranks.

At the very least, only a couple of them are over 40 so they won't automatically guess that you're talking about one of these when you say Schwinn Racer
