Need a shorter seat post

I bought a Trek Madone 6.5 from someone, but the seat is just barely too high for me. I need to buy a shorter seat post but I have no clue what seat post I need to get. So if someone could point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it!

Does the clamp remove from the seatpost? I think you remove the clamp and cut the post a bit.

No it's all one part. That's what the bike shop told us to do originally but when we brought it in to them they realized it was one piece. They could order us a shorter one for $120 but I wanted to look around online to see if I can find it any cheaper.

What an awful design. $120 to lower your seat a few centimeters? Ridiculous.

well, $120 isn't so bad for a high end seat post, although it's actually a seat mast. Compared to what the entire bike costs, it's actually pretty cheap.

They're quite common on high end carbon bikes, because they're stiffer and lighter than conventional seat posts and they were never intended to be used by anyone, other than the original owner.

does anybody know if they are adjustable at ALL? if not, just switching shoes could necessitate a new seat"mast'.

It's called 'progress' AKA: another non-adjustable part that means you have to spend more cash just to get the bike to fit properly, like with threadless headsets. But never mind, I'm sure it must be better somehow.

How did the original owner adjust it? They come oversize, no? Did he glue the clamp to the mast after it was cut?

From what I read when the bikes came out the frame seatpost neck slides into the seatpost, so I imagine what u have to do is to cut the frame seatpost neck if necessary, I remember they had this spacers too but since I dont give a damm about trek I might be wrong as usual

IMO hte bike size is ok, the fitting is weird, and maybe because of the seatpost problem he is set up like that. Saddle is all the way front, stem is backwards, my only issue with the stem is that not all the carbon stems are flip flop (be careful).

Good luck.
