Another stuck seatpost thread...
Well it happened to me finally, I have a very stuck/rusted in seatpost the only upside is it's steel, and in a steel frame. So here's the deal, it's probably 5 inches over the seat lug, the built in seat clamp came off in my attempts to remove it, the top is developing a crack down what I assume is the posts actual seam which is why I am apprehensive and here for input before I go to "interesting" methods, I've tried PB blaster soaking it and "breaking" it with a hammer/small chunk of wood at the top.. I don't want to resort to a torch or soldering iron for heat since I like the paint on this bike, I have heard of using a hair dryer is this worth trying? And no I have not thrown it on the vice yet I'd like to break of the rust bond up if possible before being forced to do that as I value this frame...

I think the OP means the seam of the seatpost which I find odd, especially coupled with a steel seatpost having an integral clamp
I think we need some pics |

I have the same problem and I've never found a way to take it out although I tried my best. I'm still with the seatpost stuck in the frame. I think the case is hopeless :(

I'm not easily discouraged, still plucking away at it.

1. PB Blaster is mediocre at best for this job. Need to move up to Kroil, Acetone/ATF mix, and so on.
2. Whatever you soak it with, it needs time. Let it soak and sit, then soak it again, maybe a day total. 3. Assume you are going to destroy the saddle, you need a large vise, and a secure workbench. |
pry frame slot and spray lube in. let it soak and stick it in the vice

So I've decided to get back to the MB-4, I've been doing my best to preserve the paint so I think I'm going to devote a half hour a day with a hacksaw blade until the damn seatpost comes out of the tube! I've been looking through other methods in vein, and I've tried soaking it for over a week with little result.
