Replacing Grip Shifters

I have finally decided to replace the shifters.

I have an old set of SRAM MRX Comp 7 Speed Grip Shifters mounted on trekking bars,
Front Shimano Deraill (model ??)
Rear Shimano ACTUS deraill.
Shimano Alvio Triple Chain rings

What would be a good model grip shifter to use?
What about a trigger shift instead? Model????

The hardest part about doing the work is getting the right parts.
Would the new shifters come with both cables & new housing?

All help appreciated ( intermediate mechanical abilities)

You have the 1:1 type rear mech or the 2:1?
the latter is sort of shimano compatable..

drop the need to index, click-shift, and thumb or bar end friction shifters are fine.

Not much choice in 7-speed realm. Another pair of MRX:

You could try digging up some 7-speed shimano triggers on ebay. Avoid 1st generation RapidFire, however. make sure it's RapidFire Plus.
Sunrace M53 comes in 7-speed. Never tried them though.

MRX come with cable installed but no housing.

Another option I'm a fan of is eBay some Shimano DX thumbshifters. Love those things. Same with XT but they cost more.

If you're happy with your original MRX Comps, replacements as shown above should work fine. You can also upgrade to fancier grip shifters to one of the SRAM models using Shimano rear-derailleur ratio, like the Attack, but I'm not sure if those are available in 7 speed rather than just 8 or 9 speed.
