mounting new tires
My son bought a new tire and had trouble mounting it. I helped and it was VERY stiff. I punctured the tube while putting the tire on. So off came the tire and with a new tube I remounted the tire. The second time the tire was much less stiff. This taught me to mount and thus streach the tire first. Having solved my problem, it got me to wondering if there is another way to put new tires on the first time or should one always streach the new tire first?

Some people keep an old rim for mounting the tires for the first time. Some tires are a ***** to install first time - at least you can be sure that when you have a flat on the road they wont be so bad to reinstall. Getting the flat when you install the tire is usually due to getting the tube caught between the tire bead and the rim. So after installing the tire, push the sidewall of the tire in from the wall of the rim, all the way around, to check that the tube isnt trapped.
