Crank placement

In trying to wrench on my own bike, the simplest of tasks causes me to sweat that I may be screwing thing up. My latest toy is a new S300 SRAM GXP crankset for my SS, mated to a GXP BB. I greased it up per the tech pages, then slid it in as far as I possibly could, then attached the non drive crank arm, and torqued it to specs. Is it possible to push the drive side in too far? Not far enough? The prior SRAM crank didn't have a 'sleeve' seal on the drive side, but the new one does. Once installed, the chainring is within a 1/2in of the chainstay. Thanks for the help to a newb...

1/2 inch is plenty of clearance, just make sure the chainline is good for the rear. Are you using a dedicated single speed rear wheel or making it with spacers and cassette hub?

Bikes: 2006 Windsor Dover w/105, 2007 GT Avalanche w/XT, 1995 Trek 820 setup for touring, 201? Yeah single-speed folder, 199? Huffy tandem.

1st question: No.

2nd question: Yes, but unlikely if you've torqued the NDS crank correctly. There's a lip of sorts near the DS crank that will butt up against the bottom bracket when it's in the correct position (this also prevents it from siding through too far).

Sounds like you did it right.
