Tektro Tri-Align Canti brakes: Front and rear specific?

I just acquired a Tektro version of the Tri-Align cantilever brake, from my searches it seems that Avid came out with the design, but mine say's Tektro.
Anyway, I am trying to make it work as a rear brake, but it is not working out.
My brake lever(Shimano RSX) is bottoming out and it still not applying enough force on the brakes.
I am just wondering if these type of brakes has a front and rear specific. Also, does it use the same cable pull as any canti's or is it a long pull like linear brakes?

As always.... Thanks in advance!

mount the brake pads so they are clamped further out on the post - more gap between rubber and brake arm / arms splayed outwards more
get straddle wire angle to about 45degrees from horizontal

I tried that, and I am still not satisfied with the result. Part of the problem, probably, is the way the cable is routed. It is routed on the bottom of the top tube, so it has so much bend doing to the hanger.

I just installed a "V" brake with Travel agent and all is well now.
