Tyre size?
I've got an old wheel here with a rim size that isn't in Sheldon's tyre size database. It has "26x1.9" and "575" stamped on it, so I assume 575 is the metric measurement. It's a steel Rigida rim, and it's also stamped "Made in France". Has anyone ever heard of 575 mm as a bead seat diameter?

I would assume the "26x1.9" is a suggestion as to tire size. I've got an old Araya that says "26x1.5" on it that I've mounted everything from 26x1&1/8th's to 26x2.1's and would expect it to take 2.4's as well probably. You should be able to put just about any 26" tire on it, I'm able to squeeze the 1&1/8th's onto wide rims like Sun Rino-Lyte's, although it does take some effort.
I'm ignorant about bead seat diameter measurements, so I'll leave that to others to answer...

Never heard of 575 BSD tires myself. Could be 650c (571) measured to outer edge of rim instead of bsd??? The suggested tyre width of 1.9" seems wide for a 650c, however. Could be an S7 571 also, and the width seems more proper for that application but I dunno how many of those would be on that side of the Atlantic.
Got any 559 26" tyres you can try on just to rule that out?
Just found an old post wherein someone had an old Rigida rim with 575 stamped in as part of the alloy descriptor:
RIGIDA.F.13Cx622
ALLOY.252.8.575

I have a 559 tyre, and I've also got one which I think is 650C. I'll try both of those and report back.
Thanks

I have no clue what the 575 refers too it seems to have nothing to do with tire size. Usually 26 inch rims marked metricaly which 1.9 seems to lead to will take most modern tires that are at least a little wider than the rim. As said above do you have a modern 26 to try on there and see if it fits.

Digging out the Sutherland's .. 571, 650C, and Schwinn S-7 are all on a line of equivalency..
its bigger than MTB 559, smaller than 650B, 584
there is a 650A also, that a 590 is brit EA3 of all those Raleigh and etc. 3 speeds..
