front derailler bolt on mount?
I have an 88 trek 1200, it has 2 mounting holes on the seat tube for the front derailler. Can anyone help me out with any info or where to buy the mounting bracket?
|
sounds like you have a braze on front derailleur, you can pick up the mounts at any local bike shop or ebay has them for about 15 bucks

Sirotis Welcome to the forums. I can't remember for sure if this was riveted on or screwed on. Can you post a pic? I am curious as to what your holes look like. Did it get ripped off somehow or did someone just take it off to 'Fixie" the bike. I think you may end up having to use a clamp on adaptor but that may be tricky if you still have rivnuts in the frame.
Maybe this will work if you still have rivnuts and they are in the right place http://www.ebay.com/itm/RIDLEY-NOAH-...item2317d3256f |

This may be a silly question but ar you sure you aren't looking at water bottle cage mounting holes on the seat tube? |
My '88 2000 frame has two threaded holes for mounting a tab for a braze-on FD. I'll be back with some possibilities.
Edit: I'm back, but had no luck. Nova used to carry one variety, but not now; and there was a Japanese supplier that had some with different hole drillings, but I didn't find them, either. I may have it bookmarked at home. here's a pic of what mine looks like http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5258/5...86897a7b_z.jpg |
Have you tried ignoring them and using a band type,
or a band + braze on FD combination? might be a proprietary piece dropped from use, now. |
The 1200 was a couple of steps below the 2000 and, AFAIK they didn't have braze-on tabs. A friend had a '89 1100 and my son had a '96 1220 and both required band clamps or adapters.
BTW are you sure your 2000 is an '88? The Trek catalog for that year lists a 2500, a 2300 and a 1500 but no model number in between. It does list the 1200. |
For what it's worth, I had an '87 1000 and an '88 1200 and both of them had the mounting tab as shown in ExPrez's photo. These were the bonded aluminum models; the 1000 had a steel fork and the 1200 had an aluminum one. My son is still riding the 1000 but the 1200 had a crack in the downtube at the junction with the (cast) headtube and had to be put down. When I replaced the crankset on the 1000 with a compact crankset, I had to use an adapter band instead of the tab because the slot in the tab wouldn't allow the derailer to be mounted low enough. I gave the tab to someone on Bike Forums; the tab that was on the 1200 got lost somewhere. When I tried later to find another tab I was unsuccessful. However, Nova Cycle Supply has this part:
http://www.cycle-frames.com/bicycle-...R-WELDING.html which could be drilled for attachment to the threaded holes in your seat tube. Good luck! Bob P. |

The 88 Trek 1000 W/Cromo fork I had, had the 2 threaded mounting holes in the seat tube, BUT the FD was a band type that more or less covered up the holes. That bike was known to be all original.
