Need advice with Dura-Ace 7700

I have my bike setup with a DA 7700 9 speed double setup with aero bar/bar end shifters. Have been meaning to switch it to a regular setup with sti shifters- never thinking about the fact that I wouldnt be able to buy them new forever. Now I am stuck trying to find something in good shape off of eBay. I saw a new set- but it is a triple. I read that you can adjust it so it just uses the middle- upper settings. But will my local bike shop know how to do that? Just wondering if this is a viable option or a jerry-rig that will give me problems.

Would also be interested if anyone knows which Ultegra option might work. I tried looking at the charts and as a non-expert I found them to be very confusing. Thanks!

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

Yes, this is a viable option, and your bike shop shouldn't have any problems setting it up for a double. It shouldn't be a challenge because many mid level Shimano road 9s STI levers only come as triple/double and the left is used as a double or triple according to which crank with no issues or special adjustments.

With 9-speed Dura Ace, components from any of the other 9-speed Shimano groups (105, Ultegra and Tiagra) can be used interchangably. If you set up a triple shifter to work with a double crank, tell your LBS to adjust it so the two "outer" clicks select the two chainrings. That way if you accidentally try to shift into a non-existant gear, you only get a slack cable, not a damaged shifter.

If you were to buy 9-speed Ultegra or 105 shifters the left shifter would be for a triple anyway. So you may as well go for the Dura-Ace.

Another option would be Campy 11 speed. I have no personal experience with this but I understand it will shift Shimano 9 speed just fine. You could buy new Campy shifters for what you would pay for used Shimano 9 speed.
