Shimano 5701 10 speed chain, need special chain tool?
I am replacing the Shimano 5701 10 speed chain for the first time. Currently I have a chain tool that come with the Topeak Ratchet Rocket (https://www.topeak.com/products/Tools/RatchetRocket). But I read in the Zinn's book that I should get a chain tool that is specific for 10 speed chains. Can anyone let me know if this is necessary please?

I am also interested in the answer to this question.
What about on the trail? Even if I buy Park's 10-speed chain tool, what if I'm on the trail and have only my multitool that may or may not have been designed with 10-speed in mind?

I've used the Park CT-3 standard chain tool for many years to shorten chains and insert the Shimano special joining tool on 7/8, 9 and 10-speed chains from Wippermann, SRAM and Shimano with no problems at all. It works fine on the Shimano and Wippermann 10-speed chains I've used it for.
Park themselves recommends it for 10-speed chains. The do recommend their CT-4.2 specifically for 11-speed chains (only made by Campy at this point) because they must be riveted after joining.
