Why is the Shimano FD-1050 derailleur different?

Why is the Shimano FD-1050 derailleur different?
All other derailleurs I have seen move the cage up and out when the cable is pulled. The pivot points are perpendicular to the axis of the bike. BUT the FD-1050 moves the cage up, out and FORWARD. The pivot points are at a 45 degree angle to the axis of the bike. Why? TIA Jim

The FC-1050 crankset came with BioPace chainrings, maybe that is part of the explanation.
