Is a shimano 6701 chain fully compatible with 5600 double compact crank and shifter?

I'm beginning to wonder if I will ever get this 6701 chain to work as well as the 5700 chain did... Bike came with full shimano 105 group, 5600 version. I replaced the rear derailluer with a 6700 short cage, and the cassette with a ultegra 6700 11/28. Chain is 6701.

I notice that if I am in the big ring in front, and the bigger cogs in back(not big/big though), that if I accidentally back pedal at all it will drop the chain to the small ring in front. If I'm in the smaller cogs in back(anything higher than 5th gear), and shift to the big ring in front, I'll drop the chain to the outside on the front. With the old 5700 chain it was perfect. And it seems like I can not get the indexing adjusted on the rear such that I don't have chain rub in any of the gears...

I think I have read that the 6700 series front derailleur has a tighter gap between the front rings. Is the 6701 chain more latteraly stiff because of this, and won't work as well with a 5600 double compact and shifter?
