Campagnolo Square Taper BB Question

I want to use a Centaur carbon crank. I have a Centaur and a Chorus square taper cartridge BB from a few years ago. The spindle length is a bit different. Will the chainline be bad enough to matter if I mix models (use the Chorus BB & Centaur crank) ? Do I need to use the Centaur BB with the Centaur crank ? I don't know the year these were made, if that makes a difference.

Chorus (and Record) square taper bottom brackets were asymetrical while Centaur and below were symetrical so the chainline might not be correct using a Centaur crank on your Chorus bb. I'd give them va try-fit and see where they line up and see if it's acceptable.

Also Centaur spindle is 111 and Chorus is 102 so I doubt the chorus will work. Not only will the chainline be off, you may be hitting the chain stay with a chainring.

It doesn't hit. Maybe I'll check the chainline, and possibly swap to a Centaur BB.

It's odd not having a lockring on an adjustable cup (old schooler here). Just crank both cups in and good to go ?

Correction. The drive side didn't hit, but NDS did, so going with a Centaur BB.

There is also a Chorus/Record 111 mm asymetric bb used for their triple cranks.

The Chorus/Record assymmetrical 111 is usually rather expensive (but YMMV) - it's made and marketed to Record level, and just isn't very common. There weren't a lot of aluminum Record triple cranks made in the first place.

You can also use a current Veloce 111 BB (it's even affordable as new) on that Centaur crankset. I'm pretty sure they have the same dimensions as the Centaur BB.

TOken has symetrycal iso in 111 just in case you want something more modern or something that wont be a pita to take off and install. The centaur BB cartridge uses this weird @ss tool that is a pretty bad design. The token one uses the regular shimano tool that wont slip if you use a quick release to hold it.

I have one of these on my 2006 vintage Chorus aluminum triple crank. and, yes, unfortunately, Campy must not have sold a lot of triples in any form since they have disappeared from all of their regular product lines. The only triple crank of any type they currently make is in the hard-to-find "Racing Triple" group.
