Part to secure rear axle in frame slot
 

I am looking for a part that will prevent the rear axle creeping towards the bottom bracket on my sons 20" bike. I cannot tighten the axle against the fame enough to prevent the pedalling forces dragging the axle forward within the slot in the frame in which it sits.

I would think that some sort of adjustable spacer that sits in the frame's axle seating slot and keeps the base of this slot and the axle separated would be ideal.

What is this part called? I cannot find one online anywhere but my local bike shop did have something similar. Only problem was it was the wrong size.

A serrated washer on the outside of the frame, under the nut can help.

Hello Welcome to the forums. I agree with Homebrew check your local bike shop (BS), we used to have these great serrated or knurled washers for mounting freestyle pegs and cases just like yours.

What kind of bike is it? Does it have a coaster brake or hand brakes? is the coaster connected correctly?


Also if he is strong enough to keep pulling the wheel loose consider signing him for a Junior track racing.

Thanks a lot. Chain tug seems the part I am after. Not sure what the difference between a chain tug and a chain tensioner are. Now I have a part name I can start searching thanks!

It is just a fairly cheap SS MTB. The chain keeps slackening and coming off, the chain tug will allow it to live on. The washer is a great simple solution too. I'll see what I can find locally.
