Crank bolt patterns and rings...
Somenice member sent me an XT crankset for next to nothing to replace my old one with stripped threads. Anyway the one he sent has 46/36/24 rings. Every one hits the frame on my 9six when installed.
My old gears are 42/32/22 but they have a smaller bolt pattern than the XT cranks have, so I can't put then on. Do I have any options here? |
The traditional 110-74 BCD will accommodate an inner ring of 24T and a middle ring of 34T. I have found several chainrings on eBay over the past two years. Otherwise, you will need to buy a "microdrive" crank and to transfer your old rings onto it.

It sounds like John is on the money that the new XT is a 110 bolt pattern which usually takes a 122.5mm bottom bracket spindle.
The one you took off sounds like a compact drive that uses a 110 or a 113 length spindle. So you may have to change your B/B. |
Just get a spindle that is a touch longer on the drive side.

I ended up buying a TrueVativ 5d with 22/32/44 rings.
While it doesn't look as well built as my XT the price was VERY right (34.99) and it feels and shifts amazing. :thumbs up: to TrueVativ. We will see how well it holds up. Thanks guys. This crank was for a 9speed, but works great on my 7 speed with a regular chain. |
