Reverse threads on left side crank bolt??
I'm getting ready to swap crank arms on a Terratrike, and am wondering if the left side crank bolt is reverse threaded as is the left side pedal??? I don't want to be tightening it when I'm trying to untighten it!! Thanks for a quick answer!

There a couple oddball cranks that use left-hand threads on the crankarm removal threads, but they don't apply to your Terratrike.

I've got a particularly stubborn bolt on one side... the left, of course! Think its going to take an impact wrench to get it out.... :-(

Wes- Good trick is to secure the crank arm to a chain stay with a toe strap wrapped around a couple of times. Andy.

Unfortunately, on a recumbent trike the chainstays are 4 (or more) feet from the cranks. That'd take a long toe strap.

Well, I took the trike to my lbs, and the owner/head mech just shook his head when he looked at it... said he believed the factory had cross-threaded the bolt for it to be tight... his 8mm allen socket was loose in the head- I'd actually stretched the bolthead in my efforts to get it loose. He didn't have his impact wrench in the shop Friday to try that- so was out of luck there.
Put it back on the U-Haul trailer and took it to my local machinist friend... between his air impact wrench and a 5/16" allen socket it came right out. Why was it so stubborn??? TerraTrike put red LockTite on the threads!! And, torqued it down to ridiculous levels- as once I got the crank bolts out, I literally had to beat the wrench on the crank removal tool with a hammer to get the crank to loosen... both sides.
Boo, hiss!!
A 6 month old bike should not be this tough to disassemble.

Also, next time, don't beat the tool with a hammer. Slip a long pipe over the end of the handle and exert steady force - leverage is your friend. Hitting with a hammer applies a shock load which may affect more than you think.

my giant defy 3 is the same way!!! I was swapping pedals out, and the right side was super easy to do, came off with ease, so I go to the left side, and i have my 15mm wrench on the pedal bolt, and its not budging!! I grabbed a cheater bar for leverage and it still wont move. Im hoping its not stripped out, because i have seen some aluminum shavings! But I think the bolt was just ran to far into the crank and thats what im hoping the shavings are from. PLEASE HELP

You ARE trying to go clockwise with the left pedal, correct??? Just making sure you're aware that the left pedal is reverse threaded..
