Trek Grips

Is there a link or thread out there on replacing the stock grips on a 2012 7.1 fx? I found a nice blog on here but it talks about replacing the the handle bars and grips. Is it possible for mr just to swap the grips?

Cut the old ones off with a razor or knife. Spray a bit of hair spray in the new ones and slide them on, and let dry overnight.

You can also get old grips off by working a narrow screwdriver under them and shooting some WD-40 or alcohol along it; work it along under the grip and the grip should eventually slide off. Clean the bar thoroughly before putting new grips on. Clean grips on a clean bars should stay put when they are applied; some more alcohol should help ease them on and will soon evaporate.

You can use a turkey injector to get some rubbing alcohol in between the bar and grips, then they slide off much easier.

An air compressor, or a floorpump will let you,
and maybe a mate on the hand pump,
get the air pressure to break loose the grip in one piece..

a ball needle will get the air under the grip.

The reference to replacing both the handlebar and grips may have been due to Trek's introduction of the IsoZone h-bar which was designed for use with proprietary grips only. Changing grips or adding bar ends meant changing the h-bar, too. I believe Trek/Bontrager has since either changed the design or made available some bits that allow use with other grips.

I don't believe the 7.1 ever came with the IsoZone h-bar, so changing grips should remain a simple feat.
