1976 Holdsworth Chain Ring help!
Morning folks,
I recently bought a lovely 1976 Holdsworth. The frame's in great condition but unfortunately the teeth on the chainrings are worn away to the point that the chain falls off and the gears slip if I put any significant pressure on the pedals. My LBS told me that I'm screwed because it's going to be impossible to find another chainset the same size, as they're not produced anymore. I'm a total noob when it comes to bike maintenance but is this really the case? I'm really upset to think it's the end of the road for this lovely old bike  Thanks in advance for your help |
W/o pics and/or measurement, the only ones who can tell are those who have personal experience with that particular bike - and I'm not one of those.
But there's not a lot of bike parts that are truly obsolete. A quick google shows that bike as having a cottered crank, not something I've worked with much. But at worst, it should be possible to replace that with a square taper crankset to keep the bike rolling. Or contact these guys: http://www.yellowjersey.org/holdsw.html |
Hi - thanks a lot for such a speedy and helpful reply :) those yellow jersey guys look like they'll be able to sort me out with something.
