Chrome pista, need help
so ive had my chrome pista for about a month now and i decided to clear coat it because it was getting scratches and i didnt want that. my process was to just wash the frame, dry it off, and spray the coating. It turned out horrible it made the frame really dull and cloudy and some parts dripped. i used turpentine to take some of the paint off but its not coming all the way off. I was wondering would a paint stripper work on this? im just curious if the stripper will just take off the coat i put on or the coat of the actual bike and the decals

If It is Chromium plated , lots of cars, now 'classic' had chrome plated bumpers, etc.
so there is cleaners developed for doing that.
Auto parts shops is where you go..

If you decide to use a chemical stripper test it out on a small, inconspicuous area first so that you do not further disfigure your bike. I'd recommend against sanding for the same reason.

A paint stripper won't hurt the chrome in any way. Just don't use any abrasives, and make sure to rinse or wipe to zero residue when you're finished.
OTOH - I doubt you'll ever get the clear coat off without damaging or removing any decals that were on the frame before you started. If you know exactly the paint base of the clearcoat, and can find out how the decals were applied, you might be able to selectively remove the clearcoat without affecting the decals by using a solvent that only works on the clearcoat. But that's a longshot, so I expect you'll have to resign yourself to stripping everything, then buying and applying fresh decals (if available).

Yea that's what I plan to do. In going to tape up the decals because you can't tell that part has a clear coat. Hopefully the stripper works. I also plan on using chrome polish to finish it off

if the plating was just to highlight portions like fork ends,
parts planned to be painted don't get polished.
a chrome plater can un-plate too its an electro plating, cathode and anode
get switch of current direction.. but it will cost ya, perfection often does.
if you have access to buy a wire brush,
brass wire brush is softer than steel or chrome..
so wont leave a new set of scratches..

Well I went through with the paint stripper and it worked perfectly in removing the clear coat. I had taped up the decals but somehow the stripper got through.. I'm planning on getting some new decals and taking then to a bike shop to put on. I can't find any pista decals though
