Bottom Bracket Clicks.

Hello all.

I hope this doesn't turn out to be a lengthy question.
My bike has been making a "Click-Clack" noise coming from the Bottom Bracket area. It started light and got worse as time went on. I took the cranks off and wiggled the BB up and down and it made the noise. Now, knowing that the drive side cap is reversed threaded I started on the drive side cap. It turns out I didn't have the right wrench for the cap remover tool. I tried using a channel lock, then a pipe wrench, then lightly taped the pipe wrench with a hammer, nothing, no luck. Coming to the conclusion I should just buy a bigger wrench. Stepping back and thinking for a sec, I realized I was turning the wrench the wrong way. Defeated and frustrated with my stupidity, I started putting the cranks back on. I got everything back on and took it out for a test ride and the noise was gone.
Not sure if I fixed the problem or cased more. I'm worried i may have striped the cap, or striped the threads in the frame.
Any way, sorry for the novel. I appreciate any feed back or/and advice.
Thanks.

Too early to say if solved, put 20-50 miles on the repair or ride some steep hills standing to see if the noise is truly gone. Doubt you did
anything to the threads, but an aluminum insert would be more susceptible to damage than a steel thread. The thread diameter alone
makes it likely that you are going to have fun the next time you try to remove the BB, as you have maximally torqued it tight. If it is
aluminum check for bits of metal on the threads next time you disassemble.
