Help dating my Trek 1100 road bike?

Hey everyone - does anyone have any pointers on how to figure out the year for my new-old Trek 1100? I've looked around hoping to find a serial number database with no luck.

I'm sure the bike is from the mid-90s, but I just wanted to narrow it down for the sake of knowing.

Some details: Bike is Aluminum with Shimano RX100 components, Exage brakes and levers. RX100 downtube shifters. Seven speed hyperglide in the rear with a dual 53 & 38 up front.

I just bought from a friend for $50 bucks. Cosmetically the bike is fine - very few scratches, but it appears to have sat in someone garage for a long time. The tires are shot, the chain rusted, nicks on the seat and dirty handlebar tape. I've spent an additional $100 bucks or so on new parts (hopefully will have everything this weekend so I can build it up!)

--

As an side thought - does anyone have any thoughts about this bike? Is $150 too much to tie up in it? The Exage brakes seem cheap, but will have to do for now.

What's the deal with the RX100 comps? They look pretty nice to me - in fact my mid-90s 105 crank looks, feels and weighs identical to the RX100 with the exception of the finish.

Thanks for any advice, knowledge, etc!

Cheers!

RX-100 was 105 with a different finish many considered superior in looks. As for the date? What difference does it make, other thah just knowing. $150 is cool if you ride it.not colol if it becomes another garage ornament.

looks like it was made 89-93, but had the rx100 drivetrain from 92-93.

My thoughts exactly. Professional help is most likely needed.

All I know is it's newer than my 1990 model... which has all Suntour Edge components (roughly equivalent to Shimano 105 I'm told).

I really really like this bike, then again it's the only road bike I've ever had. Mine was in nearly perfect shape for $125, just needed a couple new tubes and new chain, and I think it was worth it.

Be sure to take some protection and a lubricant. I suggest a helmet and Triflow.
