Shimano RD-7400 Rear Der. Cable Adjuster Replacement?
Hi All,
I've been searching in vain for the original, was hoping to find a compatible replacement. I know that the RD-7700 and RD-7800 cable adjusters are available. I've also seen the "9-speed" versions. Are they compatible? I don't really care about the appearance any longer, just want something that will thread in correctly and function in the same manner. TIA! |
This look like it? http://www.loosescrews.com/index.cgi...id=32465727407

What is so special about the 7400? It seems to me that those adjusters are compatible across the whole shimano rear derailleur line.
Did you try one and see? Your local bike coop should have piles of those adjsuters. And if not, a bike shop should have a few of them lying around that they could test with. I would just bring the rear derailleur with me and go to the bike shop and try it. |
I don't know what's special or not about the 7400. Have you been to the co-op on 16th and Helena? They certainly don't have "piles of those"! Their parts selection is pretty pathetic.
The size on the 7400 is very small, at least a mm less than the mtb ones. I have none that fit it; and I've got a lot of rear derailleurs, Shimano and otherwise. I'll try the LBS here on Division and see. Thanks!

OH hell, you live right near me, I didn't even notice it was you who posted. If you want to stop by my house, I probably have a few of those. The coop is closed so they won't be much help.
I personally dont' care much for Wheel Sport, they come across as elitist whenever I walk in there since I don't look like your typical biker. |
I have a 7400 rear derailer. The barrel adjuster is one piece - no plastic housing or spring or ridged plastic washer. I have a broken Suntour Edge rear derailer and its barrel adjuster is also one piece and looks compatible. It's the exact same length as the 7400 barrel adjuster and it threads into a Shimano 600 rear derailer I have which is the same vintage as 7400 (the 600 barrel adjuster is very likely thread compatible but it is longer to allow a ridged plastic washer and spring to be inserted).
Since the Edge derailer is shot (I was saving it for parts), you can have its barrel adjuster if you can't find anything where you are. PM me with your address if you want it. |

bobotech has come through! All of my existing ones (e.g. 600 or ?) wouldn't thread all the way in. Bo found one for me that works great, albeit a little large in diameter. It's a great feature though, since I'm using 5mm cable housing and the ferrules fit just fine!
Thanks guys! |
Glad I could have been of help!
