Running Polar HRM software on a Mac
I'm guessing this is the right place to put this...
Are there any mac users out there with expeince with using virutal PC to run their Polar software? Polar says that somehow even when using a PC emulator it is not possible to download the info from the unit to the computer using the IR interface... but my unit uses an audio interface to do this. does this mean it will work? in their mac incompatablity schpiel they also talk about windows 95... so i'm assuming this imcompatablity is present in Mac OS 9... does this incompatablity still exist in OS X? ...why don't they just write it in java then everyone can use it, i'm sure there are linux users out there that would like to use this software as well T. |
I've never found any software that will work with a Mac, for my Polar. It's bloody disappointing, it's such a great gadget and I can't use the best feature. I have looked everywhere and Polar simply do not support it, even under OS X.:crash:

Someone has worked out a way to use the Polar software on Virtual PC on a Mac using a Serial to USB device. I tried but cannot make it work on OS X.
The best solution, so far, is a software from England that works on OS X. It is still in beta version but works pretty good. A working demo is available at the maker's website. Buying the application is $30. http://www.otag.co.uk Click on the TrainingLog's More Details link and then on the Download link. |
By the way, even with the TrainingLog software you will need to use the Serial version of the Polar Interface unit. Macs do not recognize the USB version as Polar didn't seem to follow international USB standards when they developped their unit.
So with newer Macs you will need to buy a Serial to USB converter. The converter that's works is Keyspan's High Speed USB Serial Adapter, part # USA-19HS. |
thanks for all that great info... i'll give it a go. i didn't want to make any sort of investment if there wasn't a chance that it would work.

doh!... i have a Polar s510. it only has sonicLink transfer i.e. no IR interface.
will sonicLink work with the polar software under virtual PC? does the trainingLog software have import with sonicLink? T. |
did some digging myself... seems if you install soundBlaster drivers sonicLink works just fine using Virtual PC.
